On the Feast of Pentecost of 2019 CHARIS was officially started in Paul VI Audience Hall. On that occasion Pope Francis said:
“You asked me to tell you what the Pope and the Church expect from this new service, from CHARIS and from the entire Charismatic Renewal. What does the Pope expect from you? I expect this movement:
to share baptism in the Holy Spirit with everyone in the Church. It is the grace you have received. Share it! Don’t keep it to yourselves!
to serve the unity of the Body of Christ, the Church, the community of believers in Jesus Christ. This is very important, for the Holy Spirit creates unity in the Church, but also diversity.
and to serve the poor and those in greatest need, physical or spiritual. This does not mean, as some might think, that suddenly the Renewal has become communist. No, it has become evangelical, for this is in the Gospel.”
This is the threefold mission entrusted by the Holy Father to CHARIS, for the whole current of grace.
CHARIS INTERNATIONAL SERVICE OF COMMUNION
CHARIS NORDIC SERVICE OF COMMUNION
The goal of the Nordic Service of Communion is to build and strengthen the wide and diverse family of Catholic Charismatic Renewal in Nordic countries (Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark, Iceland). Currently, it consists of a provisional group of representatives from prayer groups who identify themselves as a part of Catholic Charismatic Renewal.
They are seeking to build communion within the wide and diverse family of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal. To this end, they are reaching out to all realities and expressions of the charismatic current of grace in Nordic countries (prayer groups, communities, networks, schools of evangelisation, religious institutes, publishing houses, particular ministries, ecumenical initiatives, youth, etc.)
CHARIS is led by a moderator, assisted by the International Service of Communion. In order to carry out its administrative functions, CHARIS has an International Office located in the Vatican and is supported by voluntary external collaborators in different parts of the world.
The International Service of Communion helps the Moderator to uphold, expand and promote the objectives of CHARIS; to be in touch with and to study the situation of Catholic Charismatic Renewal in its many expressions at National, Regional and Continental levels; to assure that the diversity of Catholic Charismatic Renewal is respected in the programmes, projects, relationships with other Churches and Christian communities and activities of CHARIS; to discern and give attention to the needs of formation within Catholic Charismatic Renewal.
